The club picnic was held on May 1st at Falcon Heights Hotel. As always everyone who attended had a great time. The hotel there is a great place to get together and socialize and there were lots of stories as the fish were definitely biting. The hotel provided beans & rice along with home made tortillas chips and pico which was a big hit with everyone.
The club tournament for May was held at Falcon Lake on May 1st & 2nd 2010 and boy were the fish biting. Those of us that were able to go early on Friday were treated to some great fishing as it did not matter what you were throwing they hit it. Jon said his arms hurt from catching fish on Friday. I believe him as he kicked butt on Saturday. The fishing changed a little on Saturday and Sunday as around 7:00AM on Saturday we were greeted by a wall cloud out of Mexico that had a real kick behind. The wind started blowing and did not quit all day. Even with the changing conditions the fishing was still excellent.
It was a very windy 25MPH+ on Saturday & 10-20MPH on Sunday. The air temperatures ranged from 70s-90 degrees & the water temps were 69-76 degrees.
We had 13 members and 1 guest that fished this tournament, total fish was 98, total weight was 279.30 lbs and the average fish weighed 2.85 lbs. We had 18 limits for the weekend.....
Saturday: Jon Burke led the way with 5 for 19.04 lbs. Bob Buchanan had the 2nd place stringer with 5 for 18.60 lbs and Charles Parchman had 3rd place stringer with 5 for 16.62lbs.
Sunday: Bob Buchanan led the way with 5 for 19.50 lbs stringer, 2nd place was Ngarm Ball with 5 fish for 16.42 lbs, & Charles Parchman had 3rd place with 5 for 15.36 lbs.
When you realize that folks had to fish differently than they wanted to in semi-protected locations; it gives you an idea of how good the fishing was.... There is no doubt in my mind that everyone would have blown the top off had the conditions not changed so dramatically... There were some great stringers when everything is considered...

President's note:What a weekend, changing climate condition, great food, good company and the fish were biting. I must admit that I'm the candidate for the hard luck trophy. Blew a trailer tire just outside Laredo, change tires, went back to Laredo, stopped at Wal-Mart, pickup two new tires(ruined my spare rim) and still had time to fish a couple of hrs. Caught a 7 lbs on a chatter bait on Friday. Saturday, fished Govt. cove early, got ready to go to the Salinias and the front came in-no can do. Stayed there, got my limit, went for the big bite on carolina, got bit 7-8Lbs maybe, and broke my rod trying to get her out of the bush. That's OK, the thrill was there. But I did get big bass on Sunday.
On the way home, I got pinged on the windshield and it ran. But again that's life, had a great time. It could have been worse by not catching fish (Choke). My boat ran great and I got new tires. What else can you ask for? Too bad for the trouble with these drug fools in Mexico. What effect this will have on The City tournament in October is hard to say.
