The Choke Canyon Tournament was held on April 14 and 15th with two days of complete contrasting fishing conditions. Saturday started relatively calm at daylight, then the north front came in and the north wind began to blow. It didn't stop blowing until late Saturday night. The winds had to be blowing 30 to 40 mph, but thank goodness no rain.Bob Buchanan was in 1st place with 12.84 lbs, followed by Mike Roscoe with 10.53 lbs and Ngarm Ball with 9.75 lbs. Mike was the only one Saturday with a limit of bass. The lake was crowded with pre-fishing boats by the Bass Champ guys. So, any place that was semi-protected from the wind, there were at least 3-5 boats in the area. "Take a number".
Sunday was all together different, with hardly any wind and clear skies. Vince Cruz came in with 5 fish for 15.57 lbs. Terry Stewart came in with 5 fish for 11.79 lbs. Ngarm Ball also had a limit for 12.90 lbs. Felix had a limit for 9.12 lbs. Mike Roscoe came in 1st place for the tournament with 23.55 lbs. 2nd place was Ngarm Ball with 22.65 lbs. 3rd place was Felix Huerta with 16.27 lbs.
The club picnic was success with a great turnout and plenty of camaraderie. Good to see Hassell Maltsberger and his neighbor. Hope your eye condition gets better so you fish with us again. Check out our website for the photos at our picnic.

Daily Fishing Tips
When using a channeled stone to sharpen a hook, move the hook point back and forth in the channel, changing the angle; then turn the stone crosswise and run it across the barb and sides. The point is sharp enough when you drag it across your thumbnail and it digs in.If you keep the rod too high when playing a fish near the boat, you can't properly control a strong fish, and it can drag the line across objects that will cause the line to break. To keep it clear of the boat and motors, reel down, dip the tip on the rod into the water if necessary, and steer the line clear of anything that might contact it.
There's a simple rule for fighting large, strong fish, especially on light tackle; when the fish pulls, you don't; when the fish doesn't pull, you do,.
Walkin' the Dog is a term for a retrieval technique for getting certain topwater plugs to dart back and forth enticingly, and with splashes, without moving forward too quickly.
Although a plug may be labeled a "deep diver", it's true diving ability depends on lure design, the diameter of your fishing line and the speed of retrieve. To enhance depth, make a fairly long cast, keep your rod tip low toward the water and reel at a steady, moderate pace.
