Helotes Bass Club’s September Tournament was held on lake Amistad on the 23rd & 24th . We had 20 participants and 1 guest in attendance. For those of you that could not come to this tournament you missed a good bit of action and over all good conditions. The lake is on the rise and is in real good shape. Our weather was pretty much of what you would expected for this time of year. We had a windy condition on Sat. morning turning in to a still and very hot steamy afternoon. Everyone was pretty much waiting for the weigh-in and were thankful that it was scheduled for 3:00.
Saturday’s weigh-in went pretty quickly we weighed in 59 fish for 100.86 lbs. That’s a 1.71lb average per fish. Only 5 anglers did catch a fish and we had 6 limits. Danny was in the lead with 14.16lbs, I was in second with 12.73lbs and close behind was Penny with 11.98lbs and Mike with 11.74lbs. Charles Parchman was a sleeper with 8.44lbs.
Sunday’s weigh-in went pretty quickly also we weigh-in 38 for 98.82lbs. That’s a 2.60lb average per fish. This time we had 8 angles that did not weigh-in fish, 2 of them went home early. The fish were not effected by the weather from Sat. evening and we actually didn’t feel the effects of the front until about 10:00am Sunday morning. That’s when the Northwest wind began blowing. It really didn’t blow as much as the Sat. morning South wind. As you can see from our results on Sunday we actually caught better quality fish per Angler. Lets try to continue this trend for City. Being consistence for both days is what it will take to win the tournament and sharing as much information as possible with all of our club members. Lets do it Helotes!!!!
As I mentioned above Charles was a sleeper that’s because he had some fish located and was hot after them on Sunday. He came to weigh-in with 15.25lbs to win over-all with 23.69lbs.He will not be at our meeting prior to City and wanted me to share with the club his technique for catching all of his fish for the weekend. He strictly used a Zorro Spook in about 8ft of water over the Hydria beds on the flats in the coves. He said that you needed to have patience . Work it slow, let it set, take a drink of water, twitch it a little more and then they will nail the bait. He pointed out that if they hit the bait and nock it up out of the water don’t get exited and reel the bait in, just let it set, they will come back and jump all over the bait, then set the hook and hold on, it may be a lake record!!.
The Caro’s and the Ball’s were neck in neck this last weekend for the Husband and Wife title. Penny’s heavy stringer on Sat and her 4.06lb patch fish on Sun. put them over the edge and they scooted a past the Ball’s by 1.13lbs. That good competition there gang. Why to go Caro’s.
